On a recent trip to Japan, Pedro Chirino, the Deputy Director of Sports for The World Games 2013 and representative of the Cali Local Organizing Committee, was given a very close-up view of one of the sports that will participate in this major world event - Sumo.
Whilst there, he also attended various technical meetings at the Colombian Embassy with the Secretary General of the International Sumo Federation, Takahiro Ono, together with the Secretary of the Embassy, Carlos Echavarría and the Cultural Attaché, Norié Sakae.
The Colombian delegate was able to obtain information about the different requirements for running the elite Sumo championships to be held at TWG2013, such as how to build the ring, including measurements and specifications of materials, as well as the ceremonial aspects for organizing such an international event. He was able also to watch demonstrations of this sport.
Chirino also met the President of the Japanese Olympic Committee, Masato Mizuno, and presented to him details of the sports organization and infrastructure in Cali. Mr. Mizuno was surprised and impressed by the level of quality of the sports venues, and confirmed Japanese participation at the meeting of National Olympic Committees to be held in January 2012 in Cali.
